Free Mini Amigurumi Heart Pattern

This is a simple mini-Amigurumi heart pattern. I am sure that it is not particularly unique as there are only so many ways to make a heart shape, but this is my version. I made it as small as possible because it is also included in my Make your Own Snail Amigurumi pattern as something for the snail to hold.

Materials

I have made my hearts with Scheepjes Catona (100% Mercerised Cotton; 50g/125m) and a 2.5mm or 2.25mm crochet hook (I tried both, I preferred the 2.25mm one) and with Scheepjes Stone Washed (78% Cotton, 22% Acrylic; 50g/130m) and a 3mm crochet hook.

You will also need a tiny bit of stuffing and a tapestry needle to sew in the ends.

Gauge and Measurements

This project should be worked with a tight gauge so that your heart is not full of holes. However, meeting a specific gauge is not critical for this project.

My hearts are approximately 3x3x1.5 cm (1x1x0.5 in).

Crochet Abbreviations

US terms used throughout.

  • ch chain
  • sc single crochet
  • inc increase, 2 sc in the same st/ch
  • dec decrease, 1sc over 2 sts (see techniques)
  • st(s) stitch(es)
  • yoh yarn over hook
  • sc2tog single crochet 2 together (insert hook in next st/sp, yoh, pull up loop) twice, yoh, draw through all loops.

Pattern Notes and Techniques

Where does that stitch go?  When the location that the stitch goes is not specified it always goes in the next stitch of the prior round.  For example: โ€œ3scโ€ means make 1sc in each of the next 3 stitches.

Double Magic Ring: just like a normal Magic Ring with the exception of wrapping the yarn twice at the beginning instead of once.  If preferred, a standard Magic Ring can be used instead.

Amigurumi style This pattern is worked amigurumi style which means that stitches will be worked continuously in a spiral without closing each round with ss.

Invisible Decreases is a way to make 1sc over two stitches with less of a hole than a sc2tog.

  • Insert hook through front loops of each of next two stitches, make a single crochet as normal.

Yarn Under vs. Yarn Over I have used yarn under instead of yarn over when making this heart. You donโ€™t have to do this, but it looks very tidy.

Keeping Track of Rounds can be a little tricky with amigurumi because we are working in a spiral. If needed you can use a stitch marker to keep track of the beginning of the round, or you can use the running stitch method. For the running stitch method just use a contrasting color scrap of yarn and pass it across your working yarn before making the first stitch of the round. Make sure that your scrap yarn isnโ€™t going to leave little fuzzy bits on your finished work.
