Gauge and Measurements
Gauge is not critical for this project, the size of your snowflakes will be affected by your thread size, crochet hook, and tension. The samples I made with the listed materials are between 3.25-5 inches (5-12.5 cm).
The Contemplations
Each snowflake in this set is named after a life skill or attribute. Todayโs snowflakes and todayโs contemplations are Health and Adaptability.
The Health snowflake is named as such because it is the one I was working on when I came up with the theme for this set. I was recovering from surgery at the time (all good now, horary for no more endometriosis pain). Health is difficult because there is so much to it that we often can’t control, as a result “health” is going to be different for everyone. I will try and take care of my body to the best of my ability, but things can still go wrong. People have to deal with lumps and bumps, diseases, disorders, conditions, age, whatever else might come up. All I can do is my best, get my regular scans and jabs and hope I get lucky with the rest.

I paired Health and Adaptability because I was specifying thinking about how we have to adapt to changes in health over time. My health at 40 is not the same as at 30 or 20 and I have to adapt to my own needs. I also think that it goes the other way too, when I take better care of myself, I am better able to adapt to changes and challenges.
Adaptability the snowflake was one of the few I designed with its name already in mind (the others I then decided which name fit them best). I have made this snowflake pattern adaptable. It can be made as written exactly or I have included instructions for switching around the flourishes and points. You could also get really creative and switch out the flourishes for bits from other snowflakes. you could add the stacked circles from appreciation or the branches from Perseverance or even bits from other sets. I would love to see how you adapt this snowflake for yourself.

Pattern Notes
Double Magic Ring: just like a normal Magic Ring with the exception of wrapping the yarn twice at the beginning instead of once. If preferred, a standard Magic Ring can be used instead.
Back Bump: the back bump is behind the front and back loop of the chain. This is sometimes referred to as the third loop.
Stiffening Snowflakes: these have been designed to be firmly stiffened, instructions are included on pages 10-13.

Tips for Reading these Patterns
Where does that stitch go? When the location that the stitch goes is not specified it always goes in the next stitch of the prior round. For example: โ3scโ means make 1sc in each of the next 3 stitches.
The next round doesnโt always start where the prior round began. This is written into the pattern, so donโt panic. However, it explains why some rounds may end with instructions such as โch1, 1sc in first hdc [counts as last ch2- sp]โ, this is how we are able to start the next round in the middle of a ch-sp without cutting the thread.
