Lycaenidae Snowflake (Free Pattern)

I originally release this pattern in 2019, apparently in February for some reason that I donโ€™t remember.  It has been long enough since I wrote the pattern that I think I have learned somethings and I have also changed my formatting a bit.  I have updated the pattern this year (2023).  The snowflakes are the same but hopefully the pattern is a little bit improved.

If you would like to purchase a PDF copy of this pattern ether to print it nicely or just to support me as a designer, it is available on Ravelry or Etsy.

Tension is not critical for this project, but different measurements may result in different yarn amounts needed.

The size of your snowflakes will be affected by your thread/yarn size, crochet hook and tension.

Pattern Notes

Double Magic Ring: I prefer to start all my Snowflakes with a Double Magic Ring, this is executed just like a normal Magic Ring with the exception of wrapping the yarn twice at the beginning instead of once.  If you prefer, you may use a standard Magic Ring.  I do not recommend replacing the Magic Ring with chains as the Snowflakes have been designed to have a very tightly closed center and the chains will leave a visible hole.

Stiffening Snowflakes: These Snowflakes have been designed to be firmly stiffened and most will not hang properly without stiffening. I have provided instructions at the end of these patterns for how I prefer to stiffen items. Instructions along with a video are also available on my website here.

Tip for Reading this Pattern

Where does that stitch go?  When the location that the stitch goes is not specified it always goes in the next stitch of the prior round.  For example: โ€œ3scโ€ means make 1sc in each of the next 3 stitches.

The next round doesnโ€™t always start where the prior round began.  This is written into the pattern so donโ€™t panic.  However, it explains why some rounds may end with instructions such as โ€œ12ch, 1tr in fourth ch of first tr [counts as last ch-16]โ€, this is how we are able to start the next round in the middle of a ch-sp without cutting the thread.

Do you have a tutorial for this sweet pattern?

I do not currently have a video tutorial for it, but I take requests. If you leave a comment on any of my current snowflake videos requesting this one, then I might make it in my next batch of video tutorials.
